In the context of accelerating regional recovery and restoring the hydrological functions of peat due to forest and land fires in a special, systematic, integrated, directed and comprehensive manner, the President has established a Peat Restoration Agency (BRG). BRG has the task of coordinating and facilitating peat restoration in 7 priority provinces.
The peat restoration activities themselves are carried out through 3 things, namely, Wetting, Replanting, and Community Welfare Improvement (3P). The Deputy for Education, Socialization, Participation and Partnership (Deputy III) has the duty and function to carry out socialization and education of peat restoration. Through the Peat Care Village (DPG) program, Deputy III encourages the protection and management of peat ecosystems at the village level and/or rural areas which will contribute to strengthen the resilience of the forest-free disaster of the forest and increase the village index to build. In the framework of organizing village governance, the DPG program can be integrated in four main areas, namely the implementation of village governance, village development, community development, and simultaneous community empowerment.
Strengthening institutional and financial management is an important thing to do especially when juxtaposed with the context of economic empowerment held in the Village. Village-Owned Enterprises (BumDes) in Peat Care Villages (DPG) will be empowered to manage various business units in the village, where the managed business units will be directed so that they are based on crops grown and managed in the peat area. In order for these objectives to be achieved, the BumDes in the village need to be strengthened at the level of capacity and institutions. Based on this direction, Deputy III with the Partnership / Governance for Governance Reform held a Workshop and Training (lokalatih) on BumDes related to Peat Restoration which in the implementation phase focused on DPG villages assisted by the National Budget.
The expected results from the Local Training on BumDes Development related to Peat Restoration are as follows:
- Increased understanding of training participants on the substance and scope of the Peat Care Village Program in the context of strengthening BumDes.
- Increased knowledge and technical capacity / skills of trainees in managing BumDes finances, from planning, implementation, supervision to reporting.
- Increased capacity of BumDes administrators, village officials and village facilitators in assisting entrepreneurship development at the village level and developing feasibility studies for BumDes.
This program is supported by Partnership for Governance Reform and Peat Restoration Agency (BRG) with total funding support of IDR. 189.000.000.
